Job Description:

At Regions, the Operational Risk Analyst is responsible for advanced operational risk analysis (identification, measurement, mitigation, monitoring, and reporting) and complex assignments under minimal supervision. This position may design and/or develop risk programs or risk models for the Bank and provides guidance and effective challenge to the first line of defense on implementation, execution and monitoring of the operational risk management framework. This position may also serve as a lead or subject matter expert.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with internal and external parties in risk management across various areas including financial reporting, stress testing, controls, policy and procedure documentation, governance and reporting activities, and regulatory compliance

  • Guides team in improving and providing regular updates to practices, reports, policies, and procedures designed to avoid risks

  • Oversees team processes and updates policies to reflect improvements

  • Maintains necessary training to stay well informed of regulatory and industry practices

  • Supports the first line of defense in investigating, reviewing and providing effective challenge to risk metrics and metric breaches

  • Works to limit risk exposure including those resulting from human error, transaction, processing failure, external events, threats to information systems, data integrity and fraudulent activities

  • Works with business units to understand business, drivers, concerns, future plans and offer support to mitigate risk

  • Conducts assessments of business unit exposures and new business initiatives, identifying risks, evaluating their potential impact and reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the firm's existing controls

  • Provides regulatory exam support by compiling requested information and developing materials, as needed

  • Continuously monitors control compliance and prevalent risk environment to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels

  • Supports the first line of defense with the evaluation and remediation of operational risk/loss events including root cause analysis and process improvement recommendations; may oversee and monitors remediation plans

  • May assist in developing metrics, models and tools to create and analyze Operational Risk Loss Estimates and other capital planning documentation

  • May design, develop, and implement independent reporting and/or financial analysis to assist in oversight

  • Acts as a liaison between third line and first line of defense.

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Quantitative, Risk or related field

  • Five (5) years of experience in risk management, consulting, technology, business analytics, data management or financial industry

Preferences

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (EGRC) technologies•Knowledge of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework, digital compliance, data management standards, financial statement reporting risk, internal controls, and United States generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Experience with data visualization and programming software (e.g. Structured Query Language/SQL, Python, R, Power Business Intelligence/Power BI, or related database reporting software)

  • Exposure to Agile practices and tools

  • Prior experience with performance improvement work

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), if responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley program design

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Teams, Visio, SharePoint)

  • Familiarity with financial and/or non-financial risk management strategies

  • High degree of problem-solving skills with ability to understand processes and technology

Additional Job Description

  • The Technology, Operations, Digital and Data (TODD) Risk Program Governance and Strategy Liaison supports the design, communication, implementation, and execution of the TODD Risk strategy. The role will contribute to efforts designed to ensure consistent execution of risk programs across TODD, primarily through reporting and analytics.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Identifies, monitors, and report risks that are emerging for TODD

  • Transforms data into a meaningful format for operational and/or decision-making purposes to proactively mitigate risk

  • Provide data analytics support, process improvements automation, and/or data visualization

  • Assist in growth of data and analytics competencies on the team

  • Gather requirements, identify opportunities to recommend, and execute strategies that promote proactive risk management and improve operational efficiencies

  • Build and maintain Analytical Reporting Tools and Databases

  • Interpret, analyze, and provide insights to teams and managers to determine operational impact, trends, and opportunities for risk mitigation

  • Collaborates and coordinates within TODD teams and key stakeholders to promote consistent risk approach

  • Contribute to effective governance materials through reporting and data visualization to aid the Technology and Operations Risk Oversight Committee (TOROC) in execution of its duties

  • Responsible for multiple deliverables with deadline sensitivity

  • Obtains and maintains necessary training to keep current on the discipline of Risk Management, including data risk

  • May offer guidance to junior analysts, recommending appropriate training and/or tools needed

  • Responsible for determining, documenting, presenting and/or reporting timelines, milestones, value propositions and other details of use case

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with analytical software such as Power Query, Structured Query Language (SQL), Statistical Analysis System (SAS), and applicable Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI and/or Tableau

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tools, such as Archer, ServiceNow, etc.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with tools such as Sharepoint Online, JIRA, and/or Confluence

  • Ability to build strong partnerships

  • Ability to research, analyze data, and derive facts

  • Knowledge of enterprise and operational risk management framework and principles

  • Strong work ethic, self- motivation, and high level of intellectual curiosity

  • Ability to coordinate cross-functionally to gather and analyze data

Preferences

  • Master’s degree in related field

  • Experience with R Programming or Python

  • Proficiency utilizing business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)

Compensation Details

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.

The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
