Job Description:

At Regions, the Enterprise Solutions Architect oversees multiple dimensions of assigned applications and/or capabilities including but not limited to stability, life cycle management, version control, design and development of technology solutions, mapping of business requirements to capability oriented technical requirements, and ensuring Technology solutions to business needs are developed in accordance with the enterprise architectural roadmap, guidelines, and standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partners with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions

  • Participates in the design and modeling of tactical architectures for delivery, development, and support of projects

  • Designs both the physical and logical components of solution architectures that will deliver a positive business outcome

  • Collaborates with other domain architects to provide a consensus based scalable and adaptable architectural solution

  • Oversees technical analysis and design capabilities

  • Validates designs produced by third party vendors wishing to sell solutions to the organization

  • Aligns Information Technology strategy and planning with the company’s business goals and objectives

  • Promotes the use of a shared infrastructure and application roadmap to reduce costs and improve how information flows

  • Circulates roadmaps to align Information Technology priorities with business partner requirements and strategies

  • Builds and maintains technical trusted advisor relationships with influential technical decision makers within Technology

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.


  • High school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of solutions architecture experience or a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field with three (3) years of solutions architecture experience

  • Experience of N-tier architectures and complex design architectures

  • Experience with technical, application, and information architecture delivery techniques and methodologies


  • Certifications in the technology domain of the enterprise

Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding the technology of the organization, e.g. Middleware, .NET, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Oracle, etc.

  • Awareness and ability to document designs using internal and external notational standards (Business Process Model and Notation {BPMN}, Unified Modeling Language {UML})

  • An understanding of, and ability to use, design patterns to steer business requirements into enterprise wide technical strategies

  • Knowledge of security design techniques

  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

Enterprise Cloud Architect

Key Responsibilities

The Enterprise Cloud Architect is responsible for leading the creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of Regions’ initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms. The Cloud Architect reports into the Enterprise Architecture organization and works closely with cross-functional team focusing on Cloud-Agile-DevOps effort to provide architectural leadership and best practices. The Enterprise Cloud Architect will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related subject; an advanced degree is preferred. In addition, 10 or more years’ experience in designing large and complex IT operations in large organizations. The position requires strong leadership and team-building skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals. The candidate should have experience leading the cultural change for cloud adoption.

Cloud Architecture and Design and Development (40%)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for Regions cloud end-to-end architecture, including AWS, Azure & Google networking, provisioning, and management

  • Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the Regions application portfolio, as a basis for deploying services to the cloud

  • Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation

  • Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.

  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services

  • Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks

  • Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications

Consultation (30%)

  • Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment

  • Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements

  • Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners

  • Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with Business and Application Development to size and manage scope and risk

  • Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operation

Mentoring (20%)

  • Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks

  • Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success

  • Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems

  • Conduct product work reviews with team members

Thought Leadership (10%)

  • Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements

  • Demonstrate forward thinking around where the organization is going and how technology can support these efforts

  • Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience

  • 10 + years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operation

  • Experience as a team lead preferred

  • Experience in creating a cloud strategy and coordinate adoption

  • Hands-on Experience with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud implementations

  • IP networking, VPN's, DNS, load balancing & firewalls, including strong working knowledge of cloud pattern best practices

  • Cloud Security experience in the areas of Identity and Access Management, Infrastructure Security, Data Security and Application Security e.g. Security Groups, IAM policies, NACLs etc.

  • Establishing and managing file and object storage (SAN, NAS, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage).

  • Data archiving, backup and disaster recovery to the cloud.

  • Building, changing, and managing cloud environments via Infrastructure as Code development.

  • Leveraging secrets management solutions secure, store and control application access to tokens, passwords, certificates, encryptions keys for on premise and cloud workloads.

  • Cloud Native Development

  • Micro Services architecture

  • Containerization (Openshift, Kubernetes, Docker etc.)

  • Automation Framework and Tools (RPA, Low Code etc.)

  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments

  • Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture

  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes

  • Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies

  • Relevant Design and Development experience

  • Analyzing and defining technical requirements & design specifications

  • Object oriented programming (.NET Core/C#, Java/C/C++ etc.), domain driven design

  • Database Design (RDBMS-Oracle, MS-SQL, Postgress and NoSQL-Mongo,)

  • Creating Production Grade software solutions using Enterprise Design Patterns and Non-Functional Requirements

  • Web-based solutions (ReactJS, Angular JS, HTML5, CSS, Javascript, jQuery etc.)

  • Integrating complex multi-tier systems

  • Application Lifecycle Management (ALM – JIRA etc.) and toolsets (git, Bamboo, Jenkins, TFS, Ansible etc.)

  • Building CI/CD pipeline for the Application

  • Troubleshooting - Debugging, Performance profiling and optimization

  • Agile development methodologies including Kanban and Scrum

  • Creating Architecture/Design documents (HLD/LLD) with models, system diagrams / UML

  • Evaluating software trade-offs and risks to successful project completion

  • Evaluating & selecting software framework for a solution

  • API Design and development
